Our methods

A solid grounding

Our team has a solid experience in entomology and ecology of natural environments, mainly in Reunion, supported by a large documentary base and reference materials, in conjunction with a network of specialists (beetles, ants, spiders, etc.); the co-founders are currently the people who know best the global entomofauna of Reunion Island. Our skills also extend to anthropogenic environments and the agronomic context, as well as to the other islands in the southwest of the Indian Ocean (Mayotte, Seychelles, Scattered Islands) using a general and robust methodology.

A global and integrative approach

Our team takes into account all terrestrial arthropod taxa (i.e. non-marine), with an ecological approach, by habitat and by host plant species, using a set of sampling methods by day and night (sight, beating, sweeping, light trap, etc.) mainly targeting the entomofauna of low and medium vegetation (trees, shrubs, herbaceous layer). Complementary methods can be applied for specific cases: soil fauna, aquatic fauna, interception traps, attractants, or even a bioacoustic approach (Orthroptera).

Respect of the environment

Field sampling is carried out minimizing sampling and environmental disturbances to what is strictly necessary for each problem (identification of the species present, enumeration of populations, ...), without the use of pollutants, respecting natural habitats, inhabitants and uses. Prior information is used in priority over new collections and the new samples taken contribute to the knowledge base of our general expertise.

Scientific results

Ecological diagnostics produced are based on arthropod / plant and arthropod / habitat relationships, arthropod diversity, rates of endemism and other heritage species of arthropods; special attention is paid to heritage species and invasive alien species. Our diagnoses are issued independently, on the sole basis of scientific results.
